Costs of Boob Lift Procedure
Boob lifts (also called mastopexies) are an increasingly popular cosmetic enhancement procedure to address drooping or sagging breasts. During surgery, tightened tissue tightens while moving the areola and nipple into more youthful positions – an excellent option for women experiencing changes to their breasts due to pregnancy, weight loss, or simply age-related changes.
A boob lift is a surgical process, meaning an anesthetic will likely be required. This will add considerable costs to your procedure; fees vary according to each anesthesiologist based on education, experience, and location.
Facility fees may also add additional expenses; these cover the use of surgical centers and equipment during treatment and can vary based on location. It’s wise to research various facilities before making your choice; other expenses might include medical tests, prescriptions, and post-op garments – not to mention insurance will likely not cover it since boob lift procedures are considered cosmetic.
Pre-Operative Tests
Before surgery, we require that all our patients complete a screening mammogram and blood work in order to assess whether or not they are healthy enough for surgery. Additionally, if they have had a prior breast cancer diagnosis or are over 40, a breast biopsy will also be required of them.
Our surgeon will mark the area on your breasts where they will make incisions. Depending on whether or not implants are included, your surgeon may remove excess skin, tighten and reshape tissue, move the areola and nipple higher, and then close any incisions before closing them up again.
Mastopexy typically takes about an hour and a half. You will be placed in a hospital gown and administered either locally with sedation or general anesthesia by an anesthesiologist, followed by the surgeon removing excess skin and tissue while simultaneously reshaping the nipple and areola for a more youthful appearance and closing the incisions to leave thin white lines that should fade over time.
Hospital Stay
After surgery, you will likely require at least one to two days in hospital while recovering. At this time, your physician will remove drains from your nipples and areolas; your surgeon will change bandages and sutures; you should wear a supportive bra for at least a week after your procedure; activities that require you to bend, lift or strain should also be avoided as much as possible.
During your recovery process, you may experience pain and swelling that is typically managed with prescription medication. Numbness in your nipples and areolas may also occur and occasionally the blood supply to them could temporarily stop providing nutrients, leading to damage or scars forming on them.
Combining a boob lift and nipple reduction can create a fuller, younger look. Prices will likely increase due to saline implants typically being cheaper than silicone ones; also taking into consideration surgeon experience and skill levels could affect the final costs of this procedure.
Post-Operative Care
As with any surgical procedure, there is a recovery period to consider following breast reduction surgery. You should expect swelling, bruising, and red or pink scars; you will also be required to wear a supportive bra until your breasts have fully recovered from healing. You should expect numbness in the nipples, areola, and breast skin for some time as well; pain medication can assist during this process.
Women may be able to achieve their desired results with less invasive procedures such as doughnut mastopexy in which circular incisions are made around the areolas. However, Dr. DiBello will need to discuss your goals and desires in order to provide guidance for your surgery.
